Micro Worms
Size: Largest of the three nematodes cultured on solid media, but still tiny relative to other live foods.
Best For: juvenile guppies, larger tetras, Corydoras fry, dwarf shrimp babies, small catfish fry.
Culturing Instructions
Micro worms are cultured nearly the same way as Walter and banana worms:
-
Use a flat container and fill it with a thin layer (about half an inch) of cooled, shiny oatmeal or mashed potato medium.
-
Sprinkle a small amount of active dry yeast to feed the bacterial ecosystem.
-
Add the micro worm starter culture and spread it across the surface.
-
Make a small vent in the lid and cover with cloth to keep out flies.
-
Place at room temperature and allow 5–7 days for a dense culture.
-
Harvest by swiping the container walls and transfer worms to water for feeding.
Important:
-
Micro worms reproduce fast but cultures age out after several weeks, so start backups.
-
Micro worms are slightly bigger than vinegar eels but still tiny enough that many small fry will eat them with ease.
